Reiki comes from the Japanese word’s rei, which means “universal life,” and 'ki" which means “energy.” Reiki was developed in Japan the early 20th century by Mikao Usui of Kyoto. It's not part of any type of religion or belief system. To this day it is the safest, least expensive and largely researched method of treatment that aids in the healing of many illnesses. Reiki is a non-invasive, non-manipulative therapy that involves a practitioner using gentle hand movements to guide energy within a person's body.
Reiki practitioners believe that there is an energy force in and around the body, and that a person's energy levels affect their health. They aim to change and balance the "energy fields" in and around the body to help it release energy flows and heal itself. During a reiki session, the practitioner places their hands lightly on or over the client's body, typically keeping their hands in each position for around 3 minutes. The session usually lasts for approximately one hour.
